SPIRITUAL INDIA WITH YOGA AND MEDITATION – 13 DAYS

REGARDED BY MANY HISTORIANS as the “oldest living civilization of Earth”, the Indian practice dates back to 8000 BC, and has constantly been noted since the time of the Vedas. Apart from having nearly all the world’s great religions represented here, India is also the birth place of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. India is a land of holy saints, devotees, pilgrims and stern religious following. Several elements of India’s diverse culture, its religions, yoga, and Indian cuisine, have had a profound impact across the world. India will surely touch your soul in a spiritual way that is not religious in the traditional sense, but in a way that will involve your mind, your body and your spirit, making you feel a connection within yourself, that will effortlessly come to recognise all the sounds and sights and emotions all around you in this ancient, modern, vibrant land. The peoples of the Indian sub-continent bring spirituality and ritual to every moment of their day, waking, eating, working and entertainment. Everything is connected and everything has purpose.

Upon arrival you will be met, greeted with a traditional welcome and transferred to your hotel. One of the oldest cities in the world, Delhi has an excellent old town ambience in Old Delhi, and modern in New Delhi. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early morning participate in a yoga and meditation class. Breakfast. Morning visit the Humayun's Tomb, the mausoleum of the second Mughal Emperor Humayun. Drive past the government buildings, Rashtrapati Bhawan (residence of the President of India), Parliament and the India Gate. Later visit the Sacred Heart Cathedral, a roman catholic church and one of the oldest churches in Delhi. Afternoon visit Old Delhi, passing by the Red Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and enjoy a “rickshaw” ride in Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest and largest bazaars in the India. Then, we will visit the Jama Mosque, the largest mosque in India and the Digambar Jain Temple. Continue on your tour of Akshardham Temple, displaying millennia of traditional Hindu and Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture. End your day with a visit of the Lotus Temple, built in the shape of Lotus flower, is a Bahá'í House of Worship, open for people of all religions and faith. Overnight at the Hotel.

Participate in morning yoga, Breakfast and then transfer to the airport for your flight to Dharamshala and then by road to McLeod Ganj, the headquarters of His Holiness Dalai Lama, who settled here following the Chinese invasion of Tibet in October 1959. On arrival transfer to Hotel. In the afternoon visit the Temple of the Dalai Lama and do the Kora walk - a sacred walk around the temple and the residence of Dalai Lama. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early in the morning we participate in yoga and meditation class at Yoga Center, then return to the hotel for breakfast. In the morning we will visit the administrative seat of the Tibetan government in exile along with the visit of the Tibetan library, the museum and parliament. Later visit Norbulingka, a Tibetan center where the tradition of Tibetan art is preserved. We will also visit the Buddhist Temple and the Losel Museum a museum of dolls in traditional costumes and historical ornaments. Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. In the early morning transfer to Tushita center to participate in a meditation class. After meditation class enjoy a walk through the forest of Dharamkot to Naddi village with beautiful views of the Dhauladhar mountain range. Going through a dense forest of cedar, along the way we will see a Buddhist stupa and some meditation caves where Tibetan monks are living. The tour ends in Naddi. The afternoon is free for independent activities. Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Morning travel by road to Amritsar, the capital of the Sikh religion, since the 16th century. Transfer to Hotel. Afternoon visit Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir or Darbar Sahib, a shimmering temple built in marble, bronze, and gold leaf, is a vivid architectural celebration of Sikhism's devotion. Later, visit Jallianwala Bagh, the most poignant memorial of free India. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early morning participate in a meditation session in the Golden Temple and witness the prayer ceremonies. Breakfast. Later, transfer to airport for your flight to Dehradun and on arrival transfer to your hotel in Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world. The celebrated spiritual town of Rishikesh is located on the banks of River Ganges, surrounded by Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides. Evening participate in a yoga and meditation class. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early morning participate in a yoga and meditation class. Breakfast. Morning visit the Temples, Ashrams and Ghats (bathing steps) at Rishikesh. Visit the Parmarth Niketan Ashram and participate in yoga and meditation session. Witness the evening ‘Aarti’ (prayer) ceremony on the Ghats of River Ganges. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early morning participate in a yoga and meditation class. Breakfast. Morning visit the Beatles Ashram, the most popular English rock band during the sixties. Later enjoy an excursion to Chamba, from where on a clear day we can enjoy a beautiful view of the Himalayas. Evening participate in a yoga and meditation class. Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Morning transfer to Dehradun airport for your flight to Delhi. On arrival travel by road to Agra visiting en route Vrindavan, an important site for the Hindus, as it is the city where Lord Krishna grew up. Continue on your journey by road to Agra, famous as being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World-the Taj Mahal. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early Morning yoga and meditation session with a partial view of Taj Mahal. Return to Hotel for Breakfast. Morning tour of the Taj Mahal, India’s most fascinating and beautiful monument. Also, visit the Agra Fort, an imposing fort on the banks of the river Yamuna, built by Mughal Emperor Akbar, in 1565 AD. Transfer to Delhi airport for your flight to Varanasi. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Considered to be one of the oldest living cites in the world, there are few places in India as colourful, charismatic or spiritual as the bathing ghats along the River Ganges in Varanasi. Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Sunrise cruise on River Ganges to see the Hindu rituals on the Ghats. The great river banks at Varanasi are high with eighteenth and nineteenth-century pavilions and palaces, temples and terraces. Return to your hotel for breakfast and later, visit Sarnath, the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after getting enlightenment, some 2500 years ago. Witness the evening prayer ceremonies on the ‘Ghats’ (stone steps) of River Ganges. Overnight at the Hotel.

Early Morning yoga and meditation session with a view of River Ganges. Return to your hotel for breakfast and later, transfer to the airport for your flight to Delhi. Remain in Transit and connect flight back home.
