LADAKH- CROSSROADS OF HIGH ASIA – 8 DAYS

Delhi -Leh -Nubra Valley -Leh –Delhi

AT AN AVERAGE ALTITUDE OF 15,000 FEET, the tranquil region of Ladakh is a deeply impressionable place. The geography is humbling and spectacular, this desert in the Himalayas has a knack of turning every photograph into potential desktop wallpaper—and the people, locals and visitors, are inspiring. After a day in Delhi fly to the picturesque Leh valley at an altitude of 11300ft. Over the next few days visit some of Ladakh`s spectacular Buddhist monasteries. Take the high road to Nubra valley via Khardung La Pass, the world`s highest motorable road at almost 18390ft and experience a thrilling ride in the silver sand dunes on rare Himalayan double-humped camels.

Upon arrival you will be greeted with a traditional welcome and transferred to your hotel. One of the oldest cities in the world, Delhi has an excellent old town ambience in Old Delhi, and modern in New Delhi. Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Morning tour of New Delhi visiting the Qutub Minar, a gigantic 72-meter tower and Humayun’s Tomb, the mausoleum of second Mughal Emperor Humayun. Drive past the Diplomatic Area, Government buildings, Rashtrapati Bhawan (residence of the President of India), Parliament and India Gate. Visit the Gurudwara, Sikh Temple, an architectural beauty. Afternoon tour of Old Delhi, driving past the Red Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Enjoy a Rickshaw (pedi-cab) ride in Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest and largest enclosed bazaars in India. Continue on your tour visiting the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque of India and Rajghat, the place where Mahatma Gandhi, "Father of the Nation," was cremated. Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Leh (11,300ft/3,450m), Ladakh. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. After lunch at the hotel, visit Leh Palace, modeled on the Tibetan Potala Palace in Lhasa. From there we move on to Shanti Stupa, sit on the edge of the cliff and watch the valley change color under the setting sun. Later, wander through the Leh bazaar. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Tour of Thiksey one of the most vibrant and active monasteries in the region followed by Shey, Stok Palace the present residence of the former royal family of Ladakh and ending with Spituk monasteries built on a rock overlooking the River Indus. Lunch at a local restaurant. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Day excursion to Chemre built as a funeral monument to Sengge Namgyal followed by Trathok which is the only monastery belonging to the Nimgmapa school of order and Hemis monasteries (the love palace of the compassionate person). Lunch at a local restaurant. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Drive to the Nubra valley with packed lunch crossing over the Khardung-la pass (18,390ft/5605m), the highest motorable road in the world. The Nubra Valley used to be on the caravan route leading from Leh to Kashgar through the two passes of Saser and Karakoram. Drive to Hunder to see the sand dunes similar to the dunes of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. At Hunder, you will get a unique opportunity to ride on a Bactrian camel (double humped) amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with snow capped mountains on the horizon. Transfer to the Camp. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at the Camp.

Breakfast. Morning visit Ansa Gompa and Panamik Hot Springs, this is the last point on the ancient Silk Route to which civilians are allowed. Later drive back to Leh with packed lunch visiting en route Diskit monastery. Perched on a rock overhanging next to a stream, the monastery is rich, full of thangkas, magnificent giant statues, effigies of the Buddha and old mural paintings in which a multitude of influences can be noted. Transfer to the Hotel. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

Breakfast. Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Delhi and connect your flight back home.
